On Sunday, September 1, 2024, the master's student Mousa Ali Abdul Sahib defended his thesis at 9:00 AM in the discussion hall of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry/Medical Biochemistry, titled: **"Study the Levels of Serum Apelin-13 and Pentraxin-3 in Type 2 Diabetes Patients with and without Nephropathy."** **Study Objective:** The primary aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the levels of Apelin-13 and Pentraxin-3 in individuals diagnosed with diabetic nephropathy and in a control group. The study sought to explore the potential of using Apelin-13 and Pentraxin-3 as biomarkers for the early prediction and diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy. **Results:** When measuring Apelin-13 across the four groups, there was no significant difference between the group with diabetic nephropathy (p=0.326). However, there was a highly significant difference between healthy individuals and those with type 2 diabetes (p<0.001), and a highly significant difference between healthy individuals and patients with diabetic nephropathy (p<0.001). Regarding Pentraxin-3, there was no significant difference between the group with diabetic nephropathy (p=0.95), but there was a highly significant difference between healthy individuals and patients with diabetic nephropathy (p<0.001). **Examination Committee:** - Prof. Dr. Mohammed Imran Hamza – Chair - Prof. Dr. Hala Ghazi Mahmoud – Member - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Abdullah Mahmoud – Member - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hassan Hussein Taha – Member and Supervisor - Prof. Dr. Aref Sami Malik – Member and Supervisor The thesis was accepted successfully with a grade of excellence.
