Professor Dr. Mahmoud Shakir Khudair, Head of the Internal Medicine Department at the College of Medicine – Al-Nahrain University, participated in the scientific symposium organized by the Iraqi Society of Diabetes and Endocrinology in Baghdad, which focused on hypothyroidism. The symposium was attended by a number of specialized professors and physicians from various disciplines related to thyroid diseases, where participants discussed the latest developments and challenges in the diagnosis and treatment of this condition. Professor Dr. Mahmoud Shakir delivered a scientific lecture addressing hypothyroidism in the elderly, as well as in women before and during pregnancy. He also discussed conditions that affect the absorption of thyroid hormone, highlighting important clinical and therapeutic aspects. The symposium concluded with a set of recommendations, most notably emphasizing the importance of early detection of hypothyroidism in high-risk groups—particularly pregnant women and patients with cardiovascular diseases—to ensure optimal healthcare and achieve the best possible treatment outcomes.
