The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University, concluded this week a specialized training course entitled: “Scientific Publishing in Academic Journals through the OJS System: Tools, Steps, and Practical Tips.” This course comes within the ongoing efforts of the College and the Department to support scientific research and to enhance the capabilities of faculty members as well as the editorial board of its academic journal. The course was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Raghad Ahmed Mohammed, faculty member at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The one-week program targeted faculty members and the editorial board of the College journal. It focused on several key themes, including mechanisms of using the OJS system in managing academic publishing processes, steps of manuscript submission and peer review, and an overview of supporting tools for publishing in accordance with international standards. The course also provided practical training on how to identify journals indexed in the Scopus database and how to select accredited journals, with emphasis on journal quartile rankings (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) and choosing the most appropriate venues for publication, in addition to verifying the indexing status of scientific journals. This training course is part of the College’s strategic plan to strengthen a culture of rigorous scientific publishing, to raise the standards of its academic journal in alignment with international benchmarks, and to further enhance the global presence of its researchers within the scientific community.
