19 December 2024

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the master's thesis defense of (Rusel Jaafar Dahi) in the Department of Physiology and Medical Physics took place for her thesis titled:

(Comparison of the Antibacterial Impact of Biosynthesized Selenium Nanoparticles in the Absence and Presence of an Electric Field).

The objectives of the study:

  • Preparation of SeNPs nanoparticles biologically from Ralstonia mannitolilytica.

  • Characterization of biosynthesized selenium nanoparticles using Ralstonia mannitolilytica isolated from soil, along with various tests, including UV-V spectroscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and FTIR.

  • Investigating the effect of selenium nanoparticles against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria with and without the application of an electric field.

  • Studying the impact of selenium nanoparticles on bacterial toxicity and cytotoxicity (in vitro and in vivo) in the presence and absence of an electric field.

  • Evaluating the cytotoxic effects of selenium nanoparticles against cells.

The defense committee consisted of:

  • Prof. Dr. Rasha Sabeeh Ahmed (Chair)

  • Prof. Dr. Firas Sabeeh Mohammed (Member)

  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Jenan Hussein Taha (Member)

  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Mazin Kamel Hamed (Supervisor)

The thesis was successfully accepted with

a grade of distinction (Excellent).
