The Minister of Education chaired a meeting of the Advisory Council to discuss curriculum updates and universities' readiness to implement the new transformation in the educational system environment.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, chaired a meeting of the Advisory Council, which was formed under Article (6) of the Law of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, comprising a select group of academic experts from within and outside Iraq.
The attendees discussed indicators for updating curricula in Iraqi universities in line with the evolving trends in specialized knowledge, considering the requirements of the job market and the needs of institutions for specialized academic programs that contribute responsibly to the development of public and private entities and their contribution to meeting sustainable development goals.
During the meeting, the Minister of Education emphasized the importance of systematic alignment within the Iraqi university environment to achieve the desired interaction in the fields of humanities and pure scientific disciplines, enabling students to envision the horizon of scientific advancement and understand the trajectory of education and learning in reputable global universities.
The meeting also reviewed the readiness of universities to implement the Bologna process in engineering and science disciplines at government and private universities and colleges in the anticipated academic year 2024/2023, along with the associated training programs necessary for faculty members who will implement the new transformation roadmap in the Iraqi educational environment.
The Minister of Education called for leveraging the consultative expertise available within Iraqi universities worldwide and reinforcing the continuous cooperation climate that supports the direction of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research towards global openness, integrating academic expertise, and providing an environment for collaborative work with goals related to the quality of education, academic accreditation, and alignment of scientific programs. He also noted that the ministry and its universities have succeeded in attracting international students through the "Study in Iraq" initiative, which has enhanced the academic reputation of Iraqi universities and bolstered their presence and competitiveness in global competition platforms.
