Under the theme: “Medical Education and Scientific Research: Two Pathways to Advancement at Al-Nahrain Medicine”
Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, represented by Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul-Zahra, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, and with the presence of Prof. Dr. Muthahim Al-Khayat, Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul-Hussein, President of the Iraqi Board of Medical Specializations, Prof. Dr. Ali Ismail Abdullah, President of Jaber Ibn Hayyan University, Prof. Dr. Yusra Abdulrahman, President of the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdulaziz Al-Shawi, President of Al-Nahrain University, and Prof. Dr. Anis Khalil Nayel, Dean of the College of Medicine – Al-Nahrain University, Chairman of the Deans' Committee of Medical Colleges in Iraq, and Chairman of the Conference.
The conference also witnessed the attendance of a number of deans of medical colleges, members of the National Accreditation Council, and a large group of prominent academic and scientific figures from Iraq and abroad.
The College of Medicine – Al-Nahrain University held its 12th Scientific Medical Conference.
The scientific program was inaugurated with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the recitation of Al-Fatiha in memory of the heroic martyrs and the martyrs of Gaza, and the playing of the Iraqi national anthem.
This was followed by a video speech by His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, in which he congratulated the organizers on holding the conference and praised the efforts made. He also highlighted the importance of scientific research and medical education in Iraqi universities and reaffirmed his ongoing support for medical colleges in Iraq, especially Al-Nahrain College of Medicine.
A short video presentation followed, showcasing the achievements of the Ministry of Higher Education during Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi’s tenure as Minister.
Then, Prof. Dr. Anis Khalil Nayel, Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University and Chairman of the Deans' Committee of Medical Colleges / Conference President, delivered his speech. He emphasized the importance of holding scientific conferences and building partnerships with international universities. He congratulated the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges for receiving international recognition, describing it as an important step and a significant achievement for the Ministry. He also stressed that the language of accreditation and its requirements has become the shared language of all medical colleges. His speech concluded with thanks to the Minister for his continuous support and appreciation to the conference committees, universities, and sponsoring companies.
Following this, a short introductory video about the college was presented.
Then the keynote lecture of the conference was delivered electronically by Prof. Dr. Salman Rawaf, Professor of Public Health, titled:
“The Future of Medical Education: Many Challenges to Overcome”,
in which he shed light on the challenges and future of medical education globally and in Iraq.
In parallel with the opening activities, a significant panel discussion on the management of medical education in Iraq was held, moderated by Prof. Dr. Waseem Fadhil Al-Tamimi.
Participants included:
* The Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul-Zahra (representing the Minister),
* Prof. Dr. Muthahim Al-Khayat, Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Education,
* Prof. Dr. Ali Abdulaziz Al-Shawi, President of Al-Nahrain University,
* Prof. Dr. Anis Khalil Nayel, Dean of the College of Medicine and Chairman of the Deans' Committee of Medical Colleges, and
* Prof. Dr. Yusra Abdulrahman, President of the National Council for Accreditation of Medical Colleges.
* During the session, the most critical challenges facing medical education were discussed, including the unique nature of medical colleges, the requirements for global accreditation, and the role of the Ministry in supporting the necessary measures to overcome these challenges.
In conclusion, the conference shield was presented to His Excellency the Minister and received on his behalf by the Deputy Minister. Shields and certificates were also distributed to distinguished guests and participants by the Deputy Minister and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education.
After that, the exhibitions, sessions, and workshops of the conference were officially opened.
