The Women's Affairs Unit, in collaboration with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, held a workshop titled: "Psychological and Health Effects of Divorce on the Personality of Women and Men."
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine – Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Anis Khalil Nayel, the Women's Affairs Unit, in collaboration with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the college, held a workshop on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, titled:
"The Psychological and Health Effects of Divorce on the Personality of
Women and Men."
The workshop featured a lecture by Dr. Zeina Nabil Ahmed, a faculty member from the Psychological Counseling Unit, who discussed the importance of the family in building a healthy society free from mental illnesses. She highlighted that families today face numerous challenges, including social and economic changes and technological transformations, leading to deviations, homelessness, and a rise in divorce rates, which have had severe effects contributing to the disintegration of social cohesion.
Dr. Zeina also addressed the serious psychological impacts of divorce on the personalities of men, women, and children, and the intensification of problems in relationships with others. She emphasized the need for parents to provide essential awareness to their children before marriage at appropriate ages, enabling them to bear the responsibilities of life and build a cohesive and stable family.
Additionally, the workshop included a lecture by Assistant Lecturer Taghreed Khaled Mohsen from the Women's Affairs Unit, who addressed the causes of divorce cases. She pointed out that the most significant reasons include a lack of social awareness, improper social upbringing, deviation from the boundaries set by Islamic law, and the absence of tolerance and cooperation between men and women.
At the end of the workshop, questions were raised, and discussions took place among the college staff and students.
