The Department of Microbiology at the College of Medicine organizes a workshop on **Genomic DNA and Bacterial Plasmid Extraction Using Modern Techniques.**
Professor Dr. Anis Khalil Nail, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, the Department of Microbiology conducted a workshop titled:
The workshop was held in person at the library hall and practically in the laboratories of the Department of Microbiology over two days by the following faculty members:
- Assistant Professor Dr. Huda Dhaher Hithal
The aim of the workshop was to explain the difference between genomic DNA extraction and plasmid extraction, and to demonstrate the method for extracting plasmids from both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, as well as isolating and purifying them using a silica column to obtain plasmids free of protein impurities and other contaminants, making them suitable for use in molecular diagnostic tests.
On the second day, the practical application of bacterial plasmid extraction and purification was carried out in the lab using the kit, with detailed explanations provided for each step and the significance of every material used in the extraction process.
