Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Anis Khalil Nael, the college hosted the activities of Sustainable Development and Green Education Day on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in collaboration with the Global Rankings Unit, esteemed faculty members, and dear students. The event was attended by the Director of the Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimain (PBUH) Hospital, representatives from the Holy Kadhimiya Shrine, and representatives from Al-Ain Foundation.
The activities included an introductory seminar on the concept of sustainability and the role of universities in adopting this concept, presented by Dr. Lama Kareem, head of the Global Rankings Unit and the Sustainability Committee. This was followed by the opening of a poster and model exhibition in which the college's academic departments participated. Each poster represented the department’s vision and plan towards sustainability.
Afterward, the Dean and honored guests visited the college's gardens and walkways, where the Pink October campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer, supervised by the Women's Empowerment Unit and a group of students and faculty, was launched. Additionally, there was the Future Youth Campaign to promote children's health, supervised by the Department of Family and Community Medicine; a large tree-planting campaign as part of the Prime Minister’s initiative to plant one million trees; a campaign to combat the misuse of medications, supervised by the Department of Pharmacology; and a food festival and charity bazaar in collaboration with Al-Ain Foundation to fight poverty.
Moreover, the students held outdoor discussion sessions to raise awareness about the concept of green education. These activities come as part of the college’s commitment to the university’s vision for sustainable development and education, completing the requirements for global rankings and international accreditation.
