**The College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University Holds an Awareness Session on the Risks of Irregular Migration in Cooperation with the Ministry of Migration and Displacement**
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Anis Khalil Nail, and in coordination with the Ministry of Migration and Displacement and the Migration Resource Center (MRC), and under the supervision of the Human Rights Division at the University Presidency, the Human Rights Unit at the College of Medicine organized an awareness session entitled:
“Reducing the Risks of Irregular Migration”
The session was held on Tuesday morning, December 16, 2026, in the English Language Hall, with the attendance of a number of faculty members, students, and college staff. The session hosted Ms. Jinan Hamid Mohammed Mahdi from the Migration Affairs Department at the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, Advisor Salwan Amer Abdul Sattar from the Migration Resource Center, and Dr. Zuhair Kamel Al-Gharibawi, Head of the Human Rights Unit at the College. They delivered awareness lectures addressing the challenges and risks that young people may face when resorting to irregular migration routes, as well as the resulting social, psychological, and legal consequences. The session also discussed the role of educational institutions in enhancing students’ awareness, encouraging them to invest in available opportunities within the country, and introducing legal alternatives to migration that ensure their safety and protect their future. The session concluded by emphasizing the importance of promoting a culture of safe and responsible migration among youth. At the end of the event, the Dean of the College honored the speakers with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their efforts and their awareness-raising role in enriching the topic of the session.
