Physiology and Medical Physics Branch at Al-Nahrain College of Medicine Discusses Learning depending on the Basis of Problem Based Learning (PBL).
Under the auspices of the Dean of Al-Nahrain college of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Alaa Ghani Hussein, and within the activities of Physiology and Medical Physics Branch, L. Dr. Zainab Hasan Hashim presented a lecture entitled” learning on the basis of solving the problem in small groups SGL” on Monday, 29/12/2014.
At the beginning of the lecture, L. Dr. Zainab presented a detailed explanation about the main idea of small groups learning (SGL) and the need to be applied by learners by using of a group of guide instructions principles supported by evidences of or gaining success of experiment in the long run. Also, L. Dr. Zainab Hashim Hasan showed the hypotheses about adults learning and their attitudes towards motivation to learn including:
Adults’ orientation to learn should be by themselves and independently.
They should be of a great deal of experience, which is considered as rich resource for learning.
They appreciate the learning which integrates with the demands of everyday life.
They should be more interested to gain solution rather than depending on their teacher’s solution.
They should be more enthusiastic to learn depending on their internal motives more than the external ones.
In a conclusion, L. Dr. Zainab summarized the idea of Problem based learning (PBL) saying that there should be an active climate for learning where learners feel comfortable and relaxed to express themselves. Moreover, the participation of learners in diagnosing personal needs helps drive internal motives. Also, encouraging learners to identify resources, putting strategies, use of resources to achieve its goals, and supporting learners in implementation of their learning plans should be in our consideration.
At the end of the lecture, the discussion was opened as exchange of opinions between the audience and the lecturer to reach to a deep idea.
Lastly, L. DR. Zainab Hashim Hasan thanked the Dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Alaa Ghani Hussein, and the attendance for their listening and exchanging information to serve the college and recipients alike.
