The Department of Internal Medicine Holds a Periodic Scientific Symposium on Endocrinology and Diabetes

08 June 2025

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Anis Khalil Nail, the Department of Internal Medicine, in collaboration with the Scientific Committee overseeing the Endocrinology Subspecialty at the Iraqi Board for Medical Specializations, held its regular scientific symposium on endocrinology and diabetes at the College of Medicine. The symposium featured the presentation of a series of diverse clinical cases. The first case addressed disorders of the reproductive system, followed by a case on adrenal gland enlargement, and another on thyroid hormone secretion disturbances caused by the use of the drug Amiodarone. Additional cases were also presented, including one on parathyroid gland tumors and elevated parathyroid hormone levels.

Professor Dr. Mahmoud Shakir Al-Zaidi, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, delivered a significant lecture on the latest advancements in the treatment of diabetes. The lecture focused on a distinctive group of diabetes medications known as incretin hormone analogs, which not only treat diabetes but also aid in reducing obesity and offer substantial benefits for patients with heart and kidney conditions. The symposium was attended by many specialist physicians, postgraduate and undergraduate students, and was marked by rich and productive discussions.
