The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Hussein Al-Shahristani, Called to update the scientific curriculum, and to develop teaching staffs and teaching methods in the Colleges of Medicine in Iraqi Universities. This was through the meeting with the Chairman and members of the Deans Committee of Iraqi Colleges of Medicine and with the presence of Chairman of the supervisory system and scientific evaluation, Prof. Dr. Nabeel Al-AaRagi, on Thursday 26.2.2015.

During the meeting of the Deans Committee of the Colleges of Medicine in Iraqi Universities, Prof. Dr. Hussein al-Shahristani said that “We have to keep pace with the scientific developments through participation inconferences and international forums,to involve researchers in the quality courses in international prestigious universities, to benefit from the scientific experiences and applied teaching methods, and toconveythelatestscientific developments in modern medicine of universities and international research centers in orderto prepare new generations of graduates to serveand develop their community. Historically, medicine in Iraq had a good reputationby having splendid professors and we hope that the previous high level of medicine inIraq wouldnationally return back.”

The Deans of Iraqi colleges of Medicine vowed to do their best seeking to upgrade the scientific level of medical colleges. Also, several axes were discussed by the Chairman of the Committee and the dean of Al-Nahrain Collegeof Medicine, Prof. Dr. Alaa Ghani Husain Mubarak, including the real state of curriculum of the medical colleges, the importance of communicating with the international applied curriculum, getting benefits from its information, doing of study research to meet the needs of society, and providing new scientific subjects. Moreover, they discussed adding new subjects to the curriculum including new information and also the axis of under and graduate students and the mechanism of coordination with the Ministry of Health and teaching staffs as well. They also discussed how to widen authorities given to the Deans Committee and other Colleges Committees in Iraqi Universities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister requested the deans to offer a brief presentation about their colleges, and what the obstacles they encounter at work. His Excellency recommended to support the deans committee and to implement its recommendations put by the Ministry, promising them to find solutions for problems and obstacles that hinder the work of the committee. 

Finally, the deans gave thank and gratitude to the Minster for his concern about the college state of reality, and providing support to reach the scientific information that benefits teachers, student and community
