A Scientific Workshop Explores the Relationship Between Drugs, Psychoactive Substances, and Suicide Crimes
Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Anees Khalil Nail, Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University, the Legal Division at the college, in cooperation with the Third International Scientific Conference on Drugs and Psychoactive Substances held in Libya, organized a scientific workshop entitled:
“Drugs and Psychoactive Substances and Their Relationship to Suicide Crimes.”
The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Moj Kareem Ghadheb, and it addressed the strong correlation between drug use and the rising incidence of suicide, particularly among youth and adolescents. The presenter explained that addiction contributes to the intensification of negative emotions such as misery and loneliness, which may drive addicts to contemplate suicide as an escape from their suffering. She also pointed out that individuals suffering from depression or psychological disorders often turn to drugs, which increases the likelihood of suicidal behavior. The lecturer emphasized that drug abuse ranks second only to depression as one of the leading factors contributing to suicide.
