Within the periodic activities of the Internal Medicine Branch at the college, the Endocrinology and Diabetes Division holds a workshop about the latest standards of medical care for the diabetic in 2015 , and in collaboration with Novartis (Pharmaceutical Company) and effective participation of Dermatology and Ophthalmic Branches, this seminar was held and sponsored by the Dean of Al-Nahrain College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Alaa Ghani Hussein, with the presence of a number of college professors in scientific disciplines and a number of guests from diabetes centers in Baghdad, on Monday, 02.09.2015 .

The session was presided by the Head of the Internal Medicine Branch, Prof. Dr. Hashim Mahdi Hashim. The workshop was opened with a lecture presented by the Head of Endocrine and Diabetes Division, Assis. Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Khudair, reciting a brief explanation about diabetes which became classified as a global "epidemic", for its rapid spread. He also talked about developments in recommendations of medical care for the diabetics, emphasizing on the importance of education, diet, and sports to treat diabetes. In addition to control accumulative sugar level and blood pressure levels without causing a decrease in sugar level or increase in weight.

Then, the Head of Dermatology Branch at the college, Prof. Dr. Natheer Ahmed, stressed on the most common skin symptoms in the diabetics; causes and methods of prevention and treatment.

After that, L. Dr. Muqdad Abdullah, a professor at the Ophthalmic Division, participated in presenting an important lecture about complications that affect the eyes, and he stressed on the need for early screening to prevent serious complications.

L. Dr. Jalal Abed Ali also presented a lecture about the musculoskeletal symptoms that may be felt by diabetic patients. Through the axes of the workshop, many discussions and interventions enriched the raised topics with invaluable information.

The workshop was ended with a debate about ways of diagnosing and complications treatment of the diabetic, and how to get means for care of patients. Then, the workshop concluded with several recommendations emphasizing on the need for precise periodic follow-up for the diabetics to figure out complications early, and to keep pace with developments in bringing new drugs, as well as the importance of increasing of therapeutic and educational centres for patients.

Finally, the Branch of Internal Medicine offered thanks and appreciation for the continuing care by the Dean of the College and endless attention with such activities to serve professors, students, and those who concern alike.
