A meeting between the Dean of Al-Nahrain College of Medicine and its graduate students …….. Media Unit.

The Dean of Al-Nahrain College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Alaa Ghani Hussein, met the post graduate students with their professors and supervisors of all specialties, and with presence of Assis. Dean for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Farqad Bader Hamdan, the Heads of scientific branches as well as L. Dr. Ra'ed Mohammed Jasim, the Head of Media Division, on Tuesday, 7/4/2015.

The Dean recited some guidelines concerning graduate studies toadhere. He also heard from some students talking about their problems and obstacles which they encountered during their studies, and finding appropriate solutions.

The Dean recited some guidelines concerning graduate studies to adhere. He also heard from some students talking about their problems and obstacles which they encountered during their studies, and finding appropriate solutions.

The discussion began with students’ inquiries and the head of each branch answers respectively. The discussion included several axes including the following points:

Master and PhD theses should have practical application, i.e. in order not to be neglected but to treat medical and health problems where the coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environment is existed.

- Master and PhD theses should be utilized in sustainable education service.

- What is the significant of scientific research and what are justifications put for doing research?

- The required period for following up the Master and PhD students should be three months and six months respectively.

- Reduction of financial defrayal for the littleness of resources and the austerity status through which Iraq passes. It should be                 -    emphasized on trending not to make shared supervision, (needs more than one professor to supervise), but just with the applicable         research which needs more than one supervisor.

- The second supervisor should be consultant or specialist.

- The Minister does not look at exceptions particularly but generally and restrictively.                                                                                   

The second axis was about English language where they discussed methods of developing language competence of students. The college has already informed the university about this subject for the importance of English language.

The other axis is statistics, from which some students complain that the given syllabus does not have the appropriate level of their backgrounSociety ds, so Assis. Prof. Dr. Haider Sabah suggested that there should be two different syllabuses, for teaching, one within the speciality of Medicine Branch students and the other for other branches students.

The issue of broken machines of the department of chemistry and biochemistry was presented where the testing of samples outside the college (in other institution) is limited, so the solution of this problem should be solved by providing new machines for setting by the specialized company to assure the safety of machines to damage.

The PhD students should publish their research in the college magazine, where there are four volume issued annually.

At the end of the session, the students presented their thanks and gratitude to the Dean, and supervisors for their communication and listening to their students problems with finding solutions , leading to benefits of students and the college.
