Cooperation with the Japanese side in the field of clinical training for students of the Faculty of Medicine - University of Al-Nahrain

In order to strengthen the scientific and cultural cooperation in the scientific and academic fields , program of student exchanges between Iraqi and international universities ,exchange of scientific visits in all fields and implementation of research projects in this regard, the Faculty of Medicine - University of Al-Nahrain was a pioneer in the field of scientific cooperation, particularly with Japanese universities where multiple meetings were held between the Deanship of the college represented by Prof.Dr. (Alaa Ghani Hussein Mubarak) and a coordinator from the college with the Japanese side; prof.Dr Ban Abbas Abdul Majeed) and representatives from the Japanese Embassy in Baghdad, represented by Dr. (Mochizuki), where training of a group of outstanding students was discussed. Through continuous communication of the Deanship with Japanese Middle East Medical Organisation (JMEMA) ,it became the coordinator between our collage and Japanese universities and centrist was agreed that training of students in Neurosurgery speciality takes place at Narita Medical Center in Tokyo for the period8-13/9/2014, and the choice of students was made by the university and the college in accordance with specific criteria developed by the Japanese side ,and that students must be proficient in English language and with the highest rates in the cumulative average for students at the end of the fifth year . Five students were selected in accordance with these standards .They were : Haneen Hussain Sahib , Ryam Mahmood Shaker , Deena Hamid Khudair , Hala Mohammad Edan , Howrah Azeez Abdul-Abbas and two supervisors from the teaching staff members of the faculty of Medicine, namely:

1. Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Mohammad Hassan

2. Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul-Ameer Jasim Mohammed .The facultydelegationparticipated in clinical rounds of the inpatients and preview daily surgical operations during the training period such as :doing cerebrovascular and neurosurgery , removing fatty clot inside the carotid artery, carotid artery endoscopy ,removal of benign tumors, operations for treatment of epilepsy ,using implants to stimulate the vagus nerve ,catheterization of vertebral artery ,and operations to treat malignant tumors by (Gamma Knife) device , follow-up to check out the TV EEG for a patient suffering from an imminent vascular disease in addition to taking a practical course about the best use of microscope device (for supervisors). Thedelegationalso was briefed about Pathology department and examination of tissues and the methods used in histological examinations, radiology department anddevices, as well as the mechanism of transfer ofpatientsinformation .They also visit the scientific library of the hospital viewing medical books and periodicals. At the end of the students' training program ameetinghas been made with the director of Narita Medical Center, where participating certificates and commemorative gifts from the center handed over to the delegation. Thedelegationthanked the college center for his tireless efforts during the training period .Thedirector of the centerexpressed his great joy for meeting the Iraqi delegation and hoped more future cooperation between the two countries. // Media Unit.
