Scientific research laboratories play an important role in our lives, our future and our evolution, by providing required data and information for decision making and problem solving in various situations; whether it is for a study, or for creating treatment programmes, or making life-changing decisions that benefit the community.
The tissue culture laboratory was designed and equipped with the latest technology for pharmaceutical research. The lab contains modern technology specialised for extraction and separation of medicinal compounds from herbs, and then testing their effects on control and cancerous tissue cultures. Since tissue cultures are difficult to create without the necessary facilities, this new lab is regarded as the only specialised laboratory amongst national universities.
The main objective of setting up this lab is to develop and improve pharmaceutical research, creating beneficial models to observe the effects and side effects of drugs on animal tissue cultured cells.
This project was completed successfully due to the continued efforts from the postgraduate students and staff at the faculty of medicine. The postgraduate students have begun using the lab to run experiments contributing to their research. Since the establishment of this lab, 10 articles have been published in world-renowned scientific journals.
