The Branch of Family Medicine and Community Health Holds Seminar Entitled 'The Effect of Lead Contamination on Health'

The branch of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Faculty of Medicine held a seminar entitled The Effect of Lead Contamination on Health,  Monday the 9th of March 2015. The lecture was given by Assistant Professor Ali Abid Ali Sahib, who is a consultant of occupational and environmental diseases. 


The lecture discussed some of the most important effects of environmental lead poisoning in Iraq, summarised below:

  • It introduced lead as a chemical element and discussed some of the material properties of lead

  • It explained how lead has been used historically, and the sources of lead within the environment and occupation

  • It discussed how lead enters the environment, how it should be stored, and how it should be removed from the body

  • It went through the relationship between lead and nutrition

  • It explained the effect of lead on children and the health regimes required to cure and prevent lead poisoning

The seminar ended with a discussion and a question and answer session.
