The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Hussein al-Shahristani, visited some medical colleges of Al-Nahrain University at the Northern Holy Kathimiya Campus on Sunday, 12/28/2014, to attend the opening ceremony of a number of originated scientific projects at the Hall of the Institute of Embryology Research and Assisted Techniques Reproduction. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research was welcomed by the President of Al-Nahrain University, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kathim AbdulSahib, the Deans and professors of the Colleges of Medicine; Pharmacy, Law, and the Institute of Embryology Research and Assisted Technique Reproduction, as well as two members of parliament (MP) Haider al-Shammari and Hana Al-Ta’ie, the Director of Al-Imamain Al-Kathimain Medical City (PBUT) Dr. Nawras AbdulRazaq AbdulShaheed.
The ceremony started with the speech of the President of Al-Nahrain University in which he welcomed Mr. Minister, and appreciated the Minister’s concern about Al-Nahrain University and its all affiliated colleges, his continuing presence to open scientific buildings originated by Al-Nahrain University including: opening of the originated College of Pharmacy and ooperation room of (IVF), in Vitro Fertilization at the Institute of Embryology Research and Assisted Technique Reproduction.
After that his Excellency, Mr. Minister Dr. Hussein al-Shahristani delivered his speech congratulating the Deans of colleges, professors for the new academic year, wishing them a year full of diligence and perseverance to contribute in rebuilding Iraq and to achieve
renaissance, as well as to seek for guaranteed ways that contribute in upgrading the level of higher education and scientific research, representing a solid basis for knowledge, culture, and morality building of human communities.
Mr. Minister denoted that high education and scientific research sector in general and university education in particular are considered as the pioneer leader for the process of comprehensive sustainable social economic development, and stressing that countries look forward evolution of their political, economic, social, educational, and technical regime as well as a priority should be given to the educational institutions being the only one concerned with preparation of academic competent qualified staff for the targeted process of building.
Mr. Minister illustrated that the world today witnesses a scientific and knowledge progress and accelerating noticeable devotion in all aspects of life. The progress and development have been represented in knowledge explosion and informational revolution which is a distinctive sign of the third millennium. This huge human achievement requires subjugation of science and knowledge for changes of this rapid transformation to face the growing challenges and keeping pace with its stunning fundamentals by developing data technology, and the digital economy in all educational institutions.
Mr. Minister revealed that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research seeks with earnest permanent efforts to carry out the Strategic Plan put by the ministry and to be applied in real life depending on specific mechanisms of work with framework of contemporary legislation and good will.
In his speech, the Minister, Dr. Hussein al-Shahristani, declared the executive curriculum that the ministry will follow in the coming years with the most important of several axes including: building human learner by providing him/her with knowledge, skills, disciplines, and ethics values in order to be a good productive citizen contributing in development of community and advancement of homeland, developing and updating of university education curricula according to current changes in advanced educational systems in the world, ethics values, and Iraqi labor market needs, improving the university environment with its different components, completing university cities project whether original or existing universities, providing educational necessities such as laboratories, libraries and teaching aids and internationally solid origins, ccompleting specialized university project and concentrating on the specialized university hospitals and providing necessities needed for them.
In addition, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research demonstrated that the new curricula of the ministry concentrate on originating of new colleges and branches with several disciplines which represent the latest developments in science as country needs, and paying attention to scientific research and specialized research center to activate its role in solving problems that Iraqi society faces and putting appropriate treatment for it in different fields of life, and conducting required scientific research, consolidating the concept of productive university, development of the investment aspects of higher education and scientific research sector, which represents the ideal investment in human mind, as well as activating the role of business incubators in this field, attracting repatriated scientific competent people, and benefit from their expertise to serve the educational institutions, working to originate a unified electronic gate for high education, continuing implementation of the scholarship program and openness to the outside world, particularly in the modern scientific disciplines needed by educational institutions.
After that, the Dean of the Institute of Embryology Research and Assisted Techniques Reproduction, Assis. Prof. Dr. Ulla Mohammed Ritha, delivered his speech welcoming the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the attendances, and he broached a simple explanation about the originated operation room specialized in IVF,( in Vitro Fertilization), and how it is important for individuals and community through providing medical quick services with token charges in comparison with private hospitals and medical centres.
At the end of the celebration, the President of Al-Nahrain University presented a Shield to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Deans of colleges of medicine, pharmacy law, institute of embryology also presented Shields to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research respectively. Whereas the Dean of al-Nahrain College of Medicine Prof. Dr. Alaa Ghani Hussein presented another shield to the Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Haider Al-Shammari.
Then Mr. Minister inaugurated the new building of Al-Nahrain College of Pharmacy where he acquainted with the college departments and its affiliated halls. He also praised the efforts in completing this scientific construction. Then he (the minister) continued his tour inspecting the northern campus of colleges ending in the College of Law to inaugurate the eternal Law Message Code of Al-Imam Zain Al-Abideen (PBUH) including fifty-one written human rights on clays.
At the conclusion of his visit, the Minister saluted the campaign of" message of science and disciplines" in the dearest Iraq, wishing education family and students success, and good luck to gain goodness, peace, and security to service Iraq and generous Iraqi people.
