Master’s Thesis on **Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Markers in Hypothyroidism** by student **Arkan Hamed Hatrosh**
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University, discussed the Master’s thesis of the student Arkan Hamed Hatrosh, entitled:
“Investigation of Neuregulin 1, Growth Differentiation Factor 15, and Lipid-Based Indices in Assessing Cardiovascular Risk in Overt and Subclinical Hypothyroidism.”
The study aimed to evaluate a group of biomarkers such as Neuregulin 1 and Growth Differentiation Factor 15, in addition to traditional lipid-based indices and the Framingham Risk Score, in order to estimate the likelihood of cardiovascular diseases in patients with overt and subclinical hypothyroidism.
The results revealed a significant decrease in Neuregulin 1 levels and an increase in Growth Differentiation Factor 15 levels, indicating heightened systemic stress and reduced cardiac protection, along with an elevation in other cardiovascular risk markers. The study further demonstrated the ability of these biomarkers to distinguish between disease states using ROC curve analysis.
The discussion committee consisted of:
Prof. Dr. Estabraq Abdulrasool Kuiri – Chair
Prof. Dr. Ikhlas Abdullah Hassan – Member
Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Shakir Khudair – Member
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Latif Mohammed – Member and Supervisor
Asst. Prof. Dr. Jalal Abdul Ali – Member and Supervisor
The committee approved the thesis and awarded the student a grade of Excellent.
