Branch of Internal Medicine Holds Workshop on the Latest Developments in Immunity and Kidney Transplants

On the 16th of March 2015, the branch of internal medicine held a workshop in collaboration with Novartis, a global pharmaceutical company, outlining the latest developments in immunity and kidney transplants. 


The workshop was split into two sessions. The first session was led by Assistant Professor Nitham Abdul-Latif and Dr Alaa Sheikh, and comprised of four lectures delivered by specialists in this field; Dr Jawad Kadhim Manati, Dr Shatha Hussain, Dr Arif Sami Malik and Dr Adnan Abdul-Adhim. Assistant Professor Arif Sami and Dr Adnan Abdul-Adhim led the second session, which comprised of three lectures by Assistant Professor Ali Saidi, Assistant Professor Nirman Ahmed and Dr Alaa Sheikh.


The workshop began with with a useful lecture by Dr Arif Sami explaining the immunology behind glomerular infections, and difficulties faced in diagnosing and treating such diseases. Dr Jawad Kadhim then explained the causes of chronic renal failure, and this was followed by Dr Shatha Hussian lecturing on how to diagnose renal failure in children, and the latest treatment methods. Dr Adnan Abdul-Adhim, who is a specialist based in Al-Kathimiya, focussed on blood dialysis and treatments currently available for renal syndrome, renal transplants, anaemia and kidney failure.


The workshop concluded with three lectures on kidney transplants for adults and children in Iraq.
