Abstract

Many females especially those at young age visit clinics for hirsutism. They usually consult dermatologists and gynecologists. During last years, awareness is increasing about the role of endocrinologists to manage hirsutism in Iraq. Most of the collected patients would have been found to have metabolic syndrome. It was found that 3 patients were found to have a high level of 17- hydroxyprogesterone, mostly nonclassical congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Actually, many of patients with hirsutism do not visit endocrinologists regularly; instead, they mostly focus on local treatment by a dermatologist who also make hormonal investigations and prescribe hormonal treatments as a gynecologist does. In conclusion, most patients develop hirsutism due to polycystic ovary syndrome, who need a multidisciplinary team.
