Heart failure (HF) is a chronic complex syndrome that is characterized by decrease cardiac function and causes insufficient cardiac output of blood to nourishments metabolic demands of peripheral body tissue. It is prevalent of HF in Western society, with age people 75 and older being diagnosed more than 8% with HF so is a syndrome of the elderly. Decrease cardiac output leads to the accumulation of fluids in lung and other tissue. Human N-terminal Pro-brain Natriuretic Peptide (NT-pro BNP), is the most common and widely used biomarker belongs to testing- of circulating natriuretic peptides, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and pro BNP pro hormone fragment. Soluble ST2 (sST2), is a newer peptide, member of the interleukin-1 receptor family, secreted by cardiac fibroblasts and cardiomyocytes under mechanical strain and thus it is concerned a biomarker of, cardiac stretch, CV remodelling and myocardial fibrosis Galectin-3 a biomarker appeared as a response to inflammation in HF patients defined as a beta‒Galacto side‒binding lectin member of the galectin family. The aim of present study is to measure serum levels of NT pro BNP, sST2and Galectin‒3 in patients with chronic heart failure, and compare their patients’ group vs. healthy control group also to investigate whether it can be used as a biomarker for heart failure. By using ELISA kit NT pro BNP, sST2 and Galectin‒3 was measured in serum of 50 patients with chronic heart failure (EF<40%) compare with 50 healthy volunteers enlisted as normal controls. Serum NT pro BNP, sST2 and Galectin‒3 levels in patients with chronic heart failure were significantly higher than in healthy normal subjects. Serum NT pro BNP, sST2 and Galectin‒3 levels in patients with chronic heart failure (EF<40%) were expressed at significantly high levels and so which one can be need for early or help in diagnosis for heart failure. NT pro BNP, sST2 considered a strong and independent prognostic biomarker in patients with chronic heart failure and there is positive correlation between N terminal pro Brain Natriuretic peptide and Soluble suppression of tumorigenicity. Serum Galectin‒3 recorded a good indicator for heart failure patients in this study.
