Objectives
C-peptide is the alpha and beta chains of proinsulin, which are made in the endoplasmic reticulum after the signal peptide of pre-proinsulin is eliminated, are joined by the C-peptide (connecting peptide).
Methods
This is a case control study that included 80 women with PCOS and 80 healthy volunteers (as control group) in the age range between 18-45 years old. C-peptide was measured using ELISA technique.
Results
Serum level of C-peptide was significantly elevated in PCOS patients (3.53±1.04 ng/ml) when compared to control group (2.20±0.86 ng/ml)). While serum level of AMH was significantly lower in PCOS patients (929.40±311.48) when compared to control group (1,283.36±419.99). A significant positive correlation of. 40 was found between C-Peptide and AMH indicating a moderate effect size (p=. 006, 95.00% CI=[. 20,. 57]). This suggests that as C-Peptide levels rise, so does AMH. A significant negative correlation of-. 79 was found between C-Peptide and Age, indicating a large effect size (p. 001, 95.00% CI=[-. 86,-. 70]). PCOS patients had a significantly higher mean level of LH (11.54±4.40) compared to control patients (4.78±1.79). The mean of FSH was significantly different between the PCOS and Control groups t (118.37)= 2.87, p=. 005 the mean of FSH for PCOS (M= 8.73±4.29) was significantly larger than for Control (M= 7.18±2.21).
Conclusions
In conclusion approve further studies on the relationship between AMH with C-peptide and HOMA-IR to take place in order to make use of this relationship. Where it could be possible to get an indication of C-peptide or HOMA-IR status just by the analysis of AMH. have …
