Educational Workshop at the College of Medicine on the Role of University Awareness in Confronting Extremism
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Anis Khalil Nayel, and as part of the activities marking the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College organized an educational workshop entitled :
“The Role of University Awareness in Confronting Extremism”
on 17/2/2026. The workshop was delivered by unit member Ms. Thanaa Hindi Saleh.
The workshop addressed the concept of extremism and its causes, emphasizing that weak awareness and the absence of critical thinking are among the most prominent factors leading to it. It also highlighted the role of the university in reducing this phenomenon by promoting a culture of dialogue, strengthening values of belonging, and supporting student activities and psychological counseling.
The workshop further stressed the importance of the faculty member’s role in providing balanced guidance and reinforcing concepts of tolerance and responsibility, as well as the students’ role in verifying information and respecting differing opinions. These efforts contribute to building a safe university environment based on moderation and positive coexistence.
