About - Department of Human Anatomy
The Department of Human Anatomy was established with the founding of the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University in 1987, encompassing the branches of Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Medical Biology, in addition to the Electron Microscopy Unit. The Department undertakes teaching Human Anatomy and Medical Biology to first-year students, and Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology to second-year students, as well as postgraduate courses for Master's, Doctorate, and Board in the specialty of Human Anatomy, and joint courses with other departments of the college such as Pathology, Chemistry, and Diagnostic Radiology. The Department currently continues to award Master's and Doctorate degrees in Human Anatomy to graduates of medical colleges, after the first Master's degree in Anatomy was awarded in 1993 and the first Doctor of Philosophy degree in Human Anatomy in 1995, in addition to the Department being accredited as a training center by the Iraqi Board of Medical Specialties, awarding the first Board certificate in Clinical and Applied Anatomy in 2004, and the Iraqi Board certificate in Clinical Anatomy and Embryology in 2022.
