Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) is a highly infectious disease with morbidity and mortality rates. Early diagnosis
of TB is crucial for the limitation of disease progression. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a small noncoding RNA
(~22 nt long) which plays a pivotal role in post-transcriptional regulation of the target mRNA. The present
outcome showed an elevation in the expression level of miRNA144-3p in PTB patients particularly in the
newly diagnosed group rather than the control group with p value ≤ 0.05. The receiver operating
characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to evaluate the diagnostic value of miRNA144-3p with sensitivity and
specificity 70% and 50% respectively in pulmonary TB patients. The sensitivity and specificity of miRNA-144-3p
in the newly diagnosed group were 80% and 50% respectively.
