Workshop “Humans, Not Machines” Enhances Medical Communication Skills at the College of Medicine / Al-Nahrain University

01 May 2026

The Future Doctors Journal at the College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University, organized a distinguished interactive workshop entitled:
“Humans, Not Machines”

The workshop was held in collaboration with Dr. Moaz Jawad Mubarak, a specialist in oncology and endocrinology at Al-Jawad Oncology Center in Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimain (peace be upon them) Medical City. It aimed to develop effective communication skills among medical students and young physicians, with a particular emphasis on the human dimension in medical practice.

The workshop covered several key topics, including building trust-based relationships with patients, delivering difficult news with professionalism and sensitivity, and managing complex and diverse clinical cases encountered in daily practice.
A notable feature of the workshop was its practical component, which concluded with realistic simulations reflecting scenarios in emergency departments and hospital wards in Iraqi healthcare settings. These activities involved a group of volunteer students, creating an interactive environment that reinforced key concepts and maximized learning outcomes.
The workshop sessions were facilitated by fifth-year student Aya Zain Al-Abideen, who contributed effectively to organizing the event and enhancing participant engagement.
This workshop comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen both the clinical and humanistic skills of medical students, affirming that the medical profession is not limited to scientific knowledge alone, but is fundamentally grounded in compassion and effective patient communication.
