College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University Launches Two Awareness Campaigns to Promote Health and Environmental Awareness

05 May 2026

Under the patronage and in the presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Anis Khalil Nayel, and with the participation of the Heads of the Departments of Internal Medicine, Family and Community Medicine, Pathology, and Forensic Medicine, as well as the Head of the Psychological and Educational Counseling Unit, the Quality Assurance Division, in collaboration with the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Sustainability Team Committee, launched two awareness campaigns on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The campaigns were held across the college’s corridors, halls, and gardens as part of its continuous efforts to enhance health and environmental awareness within the academic community.

The first campaign, titled
 “Reduce Waste and Create Impact,”
aimed to instill a culture of rational energy consumption and to promote the principles of sustainable development, thereby contributing to building a more aware and responsible university environment.
The second campaign, titled
“Minutes Save Lives,” included the distribution of educational brochures in addition to a scientific lecture entitled:
“Management of Seizure Episodes,”
delivered by Professor Dr. Hassan Al-Hamdani, a specialist in neurology from the Department of Internal Medicine. The lecture highlighted the most important first aid measures to be followed during a seizure, with a focus on essential steps that can be applied by anyone prior to transferring the patient to the hospital for appropriate medical care.

The event was attended by a number of faculty members, staff, and students, with emphasis on the importance of involving first-, second-, and third-year students due to their significant role in enhancing foundational knowledge and essential skills.

At the conclusion of the event, it was emphasized that such activities represent an important step in promoting health and environmental awareness and reflect the vital role of students as future leaders and physicians in building a healthier and more sustainable society.
