Al-Nahrain University College of Medicine Organizes a Series of Awareness Campaigns as Part of Sustainable Development and Health Promotion Day Activities

23 September 2026

As part of the activities marking Sustainable Development and Health Promotion Day, the College of Medicine – Al-Nahrain University organized a series of awareness campaigns targeting college students and the university community. The campaigns addressed several topics, including cervical cancer awareness, environmental awareness and reducing the use of plastic materials, as well as promoting the professional and humanitarian values of physicians.

The campaigns witnessed active participation by fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-stage students, who contributed to delivering awareness messages on the importance of prevention and early detection of cervical cancer, identifying risk factors and ways to reduce them. The campaigns also highlighted the negative impacts of plastic pollution on the environment and water resources, emphasizing the importance of reducing the use of single-use products and adopting sustainable alternatives.

The activities also included the preparation and distribution of informational cards highlighting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), along with awareness posters and brochures. In addition, images and messages portraying the professional and humanitarian qualities of physicians and their role in protecting human health and the environment were displayed. Creatively decorated waste bins were also used to encourage waste segregation and proper disposal.

These initiatives are part of the College of Medicine – Al-Nahrain University’s commitment to promoting health and environmental awareness, reinforcing the concepts of prevention and sustainability, and empowering students to play an active role in raising awareness and serving the community. They also aim to transform medical knowledge into tangible practices and initiatives within the university campus.
