College of Medicine Organizes Awareness Lectures the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Anis Khalil Nayel, and as part of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College organized a series of guidance and awareness lectures for students addressing the topic of suicide from its psychological and social perspectives.
The lectures reviewed the causes and contributing factors to this phenomenon, highlighted early warning signs, and discussed appropriate ways to deal with individuals experiencing thoughts of self-harm, as well as prevention methods. Emphasis was placed on the role of individuals, educational institutions, and society in reducing such cases and promoting a culture of psychological support and seeking help.
The first lecture was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Sahar Hassan Mushtat, while the second lecture was presented by Specialist Physician and Lecturer Dr. Haider Fares Hassan. The event witnessed notable student engagement through questions and discussions that enriched the dialogue.
This initiative aligns with the College’s commitment to supporting students’ mental health and fostering a safe and motivating university environment that enhances awareness and social responsibility.
