Assistant Professor Dr. Lama Karim Mohammed from the Department of Family and Community Medicine participated in the National Conference on Integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into Education, held in Baghdad on February 12, 2026.
The conference was held under the patronage of the Iraqi Prime Minister and organized in cooperation with the Together Association for Human Rights and Environment, the National Security Advisory, and the Bishdar Organization for Sustainable Development, with the participation of advisors from the Ministries of Education and Higher Education, as well as representatives from the Ministries of Health, Environment, and Planning. The conference witnessed notable international attendance from North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the Canadian Tawasul Program, in addition to representatives of international organizations and interested companies, as well as participants from public and private universities.
The conference aimed to develop practical mechanisms for integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into curricula and educational policies, transforming them from a theoretical framework into measurable and applicable practices within schools and universities. It focused on promoting environmental sustainability, social justice, active citizenship, and the green economy, as well as building the capacities of educational staff to ensure sustainable implementation. This conference represents a strategic step led by civil society in partnership with state institutions to support long-term educational reform in line with Iraq’s international commitments under the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, and to strengthen the role of education as a cornerstone of security, development, and social stability.
