A Seminar about the Social Media ... Media Unit
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Alaa Ghani Hussein ,the Dean of Al-Nahrain College of Medicine, the Psychology and Educational Guidance Unit held a scientific seminar on Tuesday, 12/16/2015. It was entitled "Means of Social Media, Positives and Negatives and the Extent of its Impact on Students",
During the seminar, they dealt with the following axes; including scientific features related to behavior and social psychology and its applications on electronic social media. Assistant Professor Dr. Uday Khalid AbdulJabbar, the Head of the Psychoeducational Unit, Urouba Ismail, Programmer at Computer Unit, and Enas Kathim, working at Law Unit, presented the axes of the seminar respectively.
The seminar has concluded that the means of social media seem to be easy to use, lack of need for mental power, providing easy and attractive facilities that attract people leading them to addiction. This case brings psychological pressure to the users; however the web site has no perfection in its own right and cuts all face-to- face expressions in the context of communication. This leads to unreasonable interaction, and presenting harm expressions without awareness that they might be used in terms of irritable or electronic crime, punishable under the Penal Code, even without the presence of a special law for Communication. In addition to, there are many webs deliberately used to harm the individual and society by using modern computational techniques in general.
An effective debate has started among interlocutors and the Dean where he addressed the audience talking about the problems that accompany the use of modern social media means and ways to cure them. The seminar came out with the following recommendations:
Emphasizing the role of educational therapist and his presence near students in order to fulfill the students' needs or help them when there is any problem especially that related to social media webs.
The need for the continuation of educational events to enlighten students' mind about scientific, electronic, and legal aspects unknown to users of social media which makes their use more useful and safer and less harmful.
The need to accelerate the legislation of the communication law for problems that get in the means of social media.
The need to regulate the activities of professional, social and religious to review educational standards and social traditions adopted in family and professional and educational institutions to help the emerging generation get healthy growth and to form an identity characterized with loyalty and responsibility showing a positive behavior of mature building.
