Educational Laboratories in the Pathology and Forensic Medicine Branch
Primary Studies Laboratory / Pathology
The primary studies laboratory includes two parts.
The first contains 10 light microscopes, each accompanied by all glass slides within the practical training curriculum for the first and second semesters. The microscopes are distributed at the beginning of the academic year to groups of students to benefit from them in their scientific training.
The main laboratory also contains a digital microscope equipped with an LCD screen that can be connected to wall-mounted display screens and is used to explain the practical material to students.
The second part includes a museum containing illustrative models of some pathological specimens used to enhance the theoretical understanding taught in lectures.
Primary Studies Laboratory / Forensic Medicine
Fourth-year students receive practical training on laboratory tests for detecting and identifying blood and seminal stains. They are also trained to examine fibers and distinguish them from animal and human hair. The student is trained on how to identify human bones and skeletal remains.
Molecular Pathology Laboratory
It consists of five laboratory rooms and an annex. The college deanery is making modifications to make it a first-class laboratory, where all walls will be painted with epoxy, and the false ceilings, cooling, lighting, and special partitions will be replaced.
The laboratory contains the following equipment:
- Biosafety cabinette
- Real –time PCR
- Axio-imager fluoscent microscope, with software vfot FISH & karyotyping
- conventional thermal cycles
- microfuge
- bench centrifuge
- incubators
- microwave
- gel electrophoresis
A developmental course on FISH technology was conducted in the laboratory for medical staff. Postgraduate students are now taking practical lessons and conducting research for their studies, in addition to branch professors conducting their research in it.
