Symbolism

  • A red crescent with its two ends pointing upward, symbolizing medical and health services in Iraq.
  • Two rivers flow from the ends of the crescent to meet in the middle, symbolizing the Tigris and Euphrates rivers at their confluence in the south to form the Shatt al-Arab. At its bottom is written 1987, indicating the year of the college's establishment.
  • Between the two rivers extends a blue horizon symbolizing the future, and in the middle of the horizon is an open book symbolizing the new spirit of the college with its identity open to all.
  • In the middle of the book extends a golden staff with two snakes coiled around it in six ascending loops in direction and width, together representing the universal symbol of medicine, while the movement of the two snakes represents the ascending curriculum and cumulative knowledge that the student acquires during his six years of study at the college.
  • The logo is surrounded by a golden ring, adorned at the top with part of a verse (And above every possessor of knowledge is the All-Knowing), and at the bottom the phrase (College of Medicine – Al-Nahrain University), and on the sides the name of the college and university is written in English.
