Professor Dr. Ihsan Sobhi Al-Baldawi, a faculty member of the College of Medicine at Al-Nahrain University, along with a surgical team, performed a complex spinal surgery at the Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimain Medical City.

The surgery involved stabilizing the lumbar vertebrae and correcting spinal curvature for a 45-year-old patient who was experiencing difficulty in movement and severe back pain due to lumbar spine curvature. This condition had led to lumbar spinal stenosis with compression of the lumbar nerves, causing weakness in the lower limbs.

Titanium screws and rods were used to restore the normal alignment of the spine, along with expanding the spinal canal and nerve outlets.

Notably, this surgery is considered complex as it presents a significant challenge to the surgeon in terms of protecting the nerves from potential damage that might occur during the procedure due to severe spinal canal stenosis and narrowed nerve outlets.

The operation lasted 5 hours and was successful, praise be to God. The patient is in very good health, able to walk and stand easily, and was discharged from the hospital on the second day post-surgery.
