Surgery for duodenal obstruction
Publishing date :2024-03-26

Al-Nahrain College of Medicine, in cooperation with Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimain Teaching Hospital, continues to provide medical services to citizens. A specialized surgical team performed a complex surgery on a 58-year-old female patient suffering from duodenal obstruction with vomiting and inability to eat for an entire month due to a pancreatic head tumor. After being examined by Professor Dr. Ali Samir Al-Shamaa, a specialist in gastroenterology, she was referred to the surgical team for necessary intervention. Following the required tests, including radiological exams, it was determined that the tumor could be removed. With reliance on God and after completing the preparations, the operation was performed. The procedure took five hours, which is a record time for a Whipple procedure, involving the removal of the pancreatic head, duodenum, gallbladder, part of the stomach, and bile ducts, followed by the reconnection of the stomach, bile ducts, and pancreas to the small intestine. The operation was successful, and the patient's condition is currently stable.
