Publishing date :2024-05-14

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, PhD student Ahmed Wahab Mohammed from the Pharmacology Department defended his thesis entitled:

"Effects of Isoxsuprine and Ramelteon on Imiquimod Induced Model of Psoriasis in Mice."

This study aimed to investigate the potential anti-psoriatic effects of Isoxsuprine and Ramelteon following topical and oral administration in laboratory mice. The study's conclusions were based on observational results, histopathological evaluations, and biomarker measurements. The findings showed that both topical and oral Isoxsuprine and Ramelteon significantly reduced inflammatory signs associated with psoriasis-like effects. These results were supported by histopathological examinations and biomarker measurements. Both drugs notably reduced vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels.

The current study supports the following conclusions: Topical or oral application of both drugs demonstrates anti-psoriatic activity and could be successfully used to alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis.

The examination committee consisted of:

- Prof. Dr. Ahmed Rahma Abu Ragheef (Chairman)

- Prof. Dr. Haider Faisal Ghazi (Member)

- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hassan Nasser Mohsen (Member)

- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Qasim Yahya (Member)

- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdulmutalib Abdulhadi (Member)

- Prof. Dr. Adeeb Ahmed Kadhim (Member and Supervisor)

- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Iqbal Ghalib Farhood (Member and Supervisor)

The thesis was accepted successfully with a grade of "Excellent."
