The PhD candidate Haider Iskander Faleh was discussed in the Department of Microbiology on Sunday, May 26, 2024. His dissertation was titled:
"Association of Toll-Like Receptor 4 and 5 Gene Polymorphisms in Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Infected with Toxoplasmosis."
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by irregular menstrual cycles, elevated androgen levels, and the presence of multiple ovarian cysts. Recent studies suggest that immune system dysregulation and chronic inflammation may contribute to the development of PCOS. Toxoplasma gondii, a parasitic infection, has been linked to altered immune responses. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) play a crucial role in the innate immune system by recognizing pathogens and initiating immune responses. This study investigates the association between TLR4 and TLR5 gene polymorphisms and the occurrence of PCOS in women infected with Toxoplasma gondii.
