Publishing date :2024-08-12

On August 12, 2024, the Department of Internal Medicine held a scientific symposium in the main hall of the college. The symposium included two lectures:
The first lecture was presented by Professor Mahmoud Shaker Khudair Al-Zaidi, a faculty member in the Department of Internal Medicine at Al-Nahrain College of Medicine. He discussed the diagnosis and early detection of diabetes, the different types of diabetes, and how each type is diagnosed. He emphasized the importance of regular screenings to detect the disease early, especially for those with risk factors such as family history, obesity, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and more. The lecture also covered how to set treatment goals tailored to each patient's age, duration of illness, complications, and other factors.
In the second lecture, Assistant Professor Dr. Jalal Abdali Al-Taie, also a faculty member in the Department of Internal Medicine at Al-Nahrain College of Medicine, discussed the use of medications specifically for type 2 diabetes. He stressed the importance of choosing medications that are appropriate for the patient's condition to prevent complications and ensure the safety of these drugs from side effects.
The symposium concluded with recommendations emphasizing the early detection of type 2 diabetes, particularly at age 35, and even earlier for those with additional risk factors. It also highlighted the importance of preventing this common disease by adopting healthy lifestyle habits, including proper diet, exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight. The event was attended by many specialists, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students.
