The Master’s thesis defense of *Alaa Malik Ubaid* took place on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 9:00 AM in the discussion hall. His thesis is titled:
**"Evaluation of Malondialdehyde, Total Antioxidant Capacity, Selenium, and Selenoprotein P in the Concomitant Presence of Type 2 Diabetes and Hypothyroidism."**

### Study Objectives:
This study aimed to explore the biochemical and molecular relationships between Malondialdehyde (MDA), Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC), and Selenium (Se) in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and hypothyroidism, both separately and concurrently. These conditions often coexist, characterized by chronic metabolic and endocrine disturbances, potentially leading to increased oxidative stress and altered antioxidant defenses.

### Results:
The results showed significant differences in MDA, TAC, and Se levels across the groups. Notably, MDA levels were significantly higher in the HYPO+DM group compared to the controls, indicating elevated oxidative stress. Selenium levels were lower in both the HYPO and HYPO+DM groups, suggesting impaired antioxidant defenses.
TSH levels were significantly elevated in the hypothyroidism groups, with significant correlations observed between TSH and T4, T3 levels. The ROC analysis demonstrated the diagnostic utility of these biomarkers, with MDA and TSH showing high accuracy in distinguishing between the different conditions. MDA exhibited strong diagnostic performance in identifying oxidative stress-related conditions, while TSH was particularly effective in diagnosing hypothyroidism.
