Publishing date :2024-09-21

On Thursday, 2024/9/19, PhD candidate Sura Salah Hadi defended her dissertation at 9:00 AM in the discussion hall of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry/Clinical Biochemistry, titled:

**"Study the Activity of Phospholipase A2, Endothelin Converting Enzyme-1, and Angiotensin Converting Enzyme-2 in Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease"**

**Objective of the Study:**
The study aimed to investigate the activity of Phospholipase A2, Endothelin Converting Enzyme-1, Angiotensin Converting Enzyme-2, and the levels of Leukotriene B4 and Prostaglandin E2 in patients suffering from asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Iraq. Additionally, it sought to analyze the correlation between these enzymes.

**Findings:**
The results showed an increase in Phospholipase A2 activity, Endothelin Converting Enzyme-1 activity, and Leukotriene B4, along with a decrease in Angiotensin Converting Enzyme-2 and Prostaglandin E2 levels in the serum of patients with asthma and COPD compared to control groups. A positive correlation was found between LTB4 and age (r=0.356, (r=0.39,>
