The Microbiology Department at the College of Medicine/Al-Nahrain University, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Medicine/Al-Nahrain University, held a workshop titled: **"Plagiarism: What is it? And How to Avoid It"** on Monday, November 18, 2024, presented by **Professor Dr. Jabbar Salman Hassan**, a faculty member of the Microbiology Department at the College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University. The lecturer highlighted that scientific plagiarism involves using ideas, texts, or data from others' work without proper attribution, which constitutes a violation of academic research ethics. Plagiarism is considered unethical behavior and can lead to severe consequences, such as the loss of academic credentials or legal issues. Moreover, cases of plagiarism can result in loss of academic credibility, sanctions from educational institutions, and negative impacts on future career prospects. The workshop also detailed the types of plagiarism and introduced key software tools that can be used to detect such instances. The workshop was attended by several researchers, postgraduate students from various colleges of Al-Nahrain University and other universities, as well as esteemed faculty members.
