Department of Pediatrics
Pediatrics branch was founded in 1987. It has many responsibilities represented in that:

• This branch gives lectures to fourth year students .Thirty lectures are given in the first term, and another thirty lectures in the second term, through which students are introduced to the importance of the child and common diseases that affect this important group in the society, natural growth of children and how to protect them from some of incurable diseases by vaccines.

• This branch gives lectures to the fifth year students as fifteen lectures in the first term and another fifteen lectures in the second term through which the student is introduced to diseases that affect the respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems and the blood.

• Clinical training for fourth year students where the students are to be introduced to how to reach the diagnosis of diseases through medical history taking, clinical examination and investigations that aid in the diagnosis.

• Clinical training for sixth year students as they are prepared to be resident doctors through taking advantage of how the diagnosis and treatment is made and monitoring of hospitalized patients in children ward.

• Participations in all clinical activities in Al-Imamain Al-Kathimain Medical City/ Paediatric Department, such as treatment of patients and attendance in the consultation clinics.

• Supervision and follow up of the work of graduate students (Iraqi and Arab Board).

• Supervision of the research presented by graduate students (Iraqi and Arab Board).

• Supervision of research presented by graduate students in other centres of the Iraqi body.

• Participation in graduate students' examinations.

Continuation of Final Clinical Examinations for Sixth-Year Students in the Pediatrics Department at Al-Nahrain University

The Pediatrics Department at the College of Medicine, Al-Nahrain University, continues to conduct the final clinical examinations for sixth-year students on the sixth floor of the Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimain Medical City. On Thursday, June 19, 2025, the exams entered their fourth consecutive day. A number of external examiners from Al-Kindy College of Medicine participated in the examinations, including Prof. Dr. Haider Hadi, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdulrazzaq, and Prof. Dr. Abbas Awid Al-Mousawi, in addition to the department’s faculty members and healthcare professionals. The examinations were conducted in an organized and calm atmosphere, with sufficient time allocated by the College of Medicine, which contributed to maintaining the integrity and success of the examination process in accordance with approved academic standards.

Department of Pediatrics Discusses Graduation Research Projects of Sixth-Year Students for the Academic Year 2024–2025

With the help and guidance of Almighty God, the graduation research discussions for sixth-year students for the academic year 2024–2025 were successfully conducted in the Department of Pediatrics – College of Medicine / Al-Nahrain University. The discussions took place over three consecutive days: Sunday, April 20, 2025; Monday, April 21, 2025; and Tuesday, April 22, 2025, with the active participation of all faculty members in the department. The discussion sessions were marked by transparency and strong engagement from the examination committees, as well as the students’ commitment to presenting solid scientific research that reflects their academic and research efforts throughout the academic year. This scientific activity comes as part of the college's ongoing efforts to promote scientific research and to enhance the academic and training standards of its students, contributing to the preparation of competent medical professionals who meet the evolving demands of modern medicine across various fields.
